Arjun Modhvadiya

Shri Arjunbhai Devabhai Modhwadia was born on 17th of February 1957 in the village of Modhwada. He had a modest upbringing along with his siblings, one brother and two daughters. Since his initial days, Arjunbhai was taught the lesson of humility and respect for others. Being a ‘Son of Soil’, Arjunbhai knew the meaning of hard work and thus helped his father in the fields till the completion of his studies. The experience of working at the grass-root still keeps him grounded. Shri Arjun Modhwadia graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Lakhdeersinhji Engineering College, Morbi, in the year 1982. His commitment towards education is evident by the fact that since that same year he was elected a Senate Member and Syndicate Member of Saurashtra University, Rajkot, till 2002. During the same period he was also awarded the membership of the Executive Council of the university in 1988. In his stint at the university, he was a forerunner in contribution of implementable ideas for improving the quality of education. After graduation, Shri Arjun Modhwadia started his professional career as an Assistant Engineer with Gujarat Maritime Board for almost 10 years. He could have continued with the same and ended-up being a very successful maritime engineer. But his motto of life was more selfless than this. In 1993 he quit his job and devoted himself completely to public service. Shri Arjun Modhwadia, officially, became a member of India’s largest and the oldest political party, Indian National Congress, in the year 1997. With his dedicated efforts and exceptional public service, he was elected a Member of Gujarat Legislative Assembly from Porbandar Legislative Constituency in the year 2002. Blessed with fine oratory skills and keen mind for politics, Shri Arjun Modhwadia was appointed the Leader of the Opposition in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly for the time period between 2004 and 2007. The public took notice of his work and leadership skills and he retained his membership of Gujarat Legislative Assembly after the general elections of 2007. Shri Arjun Modhwadia has a deep feeling for his people and thus, he has dedicated his life for them. He has been very active in the field of education, healthcare and public trusts. He is the Founder and Managing Trustee of Maldevji Odedra Smarak Trust, Dr. Viram Godhania Mahila Arts, Commerce, Home Science and Computer Science College as well as numerous other educational institutes since 1988. He has been presiding over the Gramya Bharati High School, Bagvadar since 2002. Sorath Kshay Nivaran Samiti runs a public hospital for Tuberculosis (TB) patients in Keshod (District: Junagadh). Shri Arjun Modhwadia has been efficiently fulfilling his duties as a Trustee for the hospital since 2004. Shri Arjun Modhwadia has been blessed with the support of his wife Smt. Hiraben and his children (a son and a daughter).
