Involved in rehabilitation of widows and helping old and physically handicapped people. Remained Member, Block Development Committee, Mandi Sadar, 1992-96; General Secretary, Youth Congress, District Mandi; President, Seva Dal, Balh; and Member, P.C.C.
Elected to State Legislative Assembly as Himachal Vikas Congress candidate in 1998 but soon joined B.J.P.; re-elected in 2007. Remained Minister of State for Animal Husbandry (Independent Charge) Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, 1998-2003; Member, Welfare and Geneal Development Committees during 2008-2012.
Elected to the State Legislative Assembly for a third term in December, 2012; inducted into Council of Minister as Excise & Taxation Minister with additional charge of Printing & Stationery.
